CYCLING FOR A GREAT CAUSE

Among cancer-related deaths, ovarian cancer comes in fifth among women between the ages of 35 to 74. In fact, it’s believed that about one in every 71 women will develop ovarian cancer in her lifetime. Each year, over 14,000 women succumb to the effects of ovarian cancer and because there is no proven test to diagnose it, it’s too late for treatment. With that in mind, it’s imperative to continue funding research towards finding ways to combat ovarian cancer and increase awareness.

After seeing her friend succumb to ovarian cancer, a woman named Bethany Diamond launched the Ovarian Cycle indoor event. Initially comprised of a mere forty cycling enthusiasts, Ovarian Cycle has since expanded to over fourteen cities and has had thousands of cycling participants. The event has raised over $3 million in funding for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, the largest and oldest ovarian cancer research charity in the United States.

Ovarian Cycle is open to women as well as men. For more information on where the next ride will be, visit http://ovariancycle.ocrf.org/events/.
